MAG was established in 1998 and already in 2002 has organized its First national symposium, with a commitment to reunion on every four years: these were realized in 2006, 2010, 2014 and in 2022. Number of participants has been successively increasing, so most of them had international editorial boards. In the meantime, MAG organized a seminar for Eurocodes 7 and 8 in 2008 and the XVI Danube-European Conference with the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), as well as a seminar on risks in tunnel construction, in collaboration with the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA) in 2018. Along with lecturers from fore mentioned organizations, MAG also hosted the boards of ISSMGE and ITA. In addition, with the support of ISRM, MAG organized the Fifth Symposium in 2022 in a form of an ISRM Specialized Conference. This event was a Second Conference of the regional geotechnical societies, and as such was also promoted by the ISSMGE. These conditions enabled to have there the presidents of both the ISRM and of ISSMGE. In June 2024, MAG hosted the 28^th European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference of the ISSMGE. Due to such dedication and other multilayered commitments, MAG was awarded as Best performing National group in ISRM for 2021-2023, as well as for Most active professional society in frame of the Macedonian Engineering Institution for 2024.
